The Gladdies roared back into 2020 with a barnstorming win over the Winter Stars. Sent into bat in the rain, the Gladdies played smart, getting the ball sopping before attacking. Centejas unfortunately did his quad before Kunal and James G set about methodically getting to 40. We were 2-105 at drinks, and poised to make a big total. Late recruit Brendan played a smart role holding the second half of the innings together, and we launched from the 29th over, scoring 84 runs in the final 7, with Kunal and James coming back to register their 50s. The pressure was well and truly on the Stars, chasing 237 for victory.
It didn’t start well for them. James G was aggressive from ball 1, and before the over was over he had batsman 1 awkwardly fending the ball straight to Christian behind the stumps. Jamie had the other opener caught well by Dan (who had helpfully shown up to say hello and was thus rapidly drafted to replace Dave in the field) in the second over, and things were looking grim for the Stars. But not as Grimm as when Simon picked up 3 wickets in 7 balls to leave the Stars far from their fairytale ending at 5/57 (sorry). Brendan nabbed two quick wickets of his own, and the match just petered out from there, with Jimbo cleaning up the last two for nothing to hand the Gladdies a 154 run win. Tidy.
